Week 1 Analysis: Businesses & Blogs
When going
over the Full Sail blog, Science World blog, and the Dollar Shave Club blog, I had noticed several things that they had in common.
First, every single blog addresses a question or a group of questions. Ranging
from super funny to very serious, it was all questions that we have probably have never thought about, found interesting, or just merely something we’ve always
wanted to know the answer to. Second, each blog provided information and facts.
To go along with the questions, they provided facts to each answer or topic.
Whether they were references or event information, you could tell that
everything was planned and in the end you built a trust for them. Third, each
blog was visually appealing. My favorite was the DSC blog. Different colors and
big fonts provided a great visual presence for any audience member. The Science
World and Dollar Shave Club blogs are similar to each other because they both grabbed your attention with their crazy questions. DSC provided feedback to the
question, “How Often Should I Go Number Two?” which I personally thought was
hilarious! Science World Blog asked questions like, “Ever Wonder About Apples
Going Brown?” or “The Effects of Grapefruit on the Brain.” They are all very
interesting and capture your attention. They make you feel like you need to
know the answer to the question or read more about a certain topic. These blogs
are different from Full Sail’s blog because Full Sail is more of an
entertainment news channel. This blog lets you know when certain events are
coming up or they reflect on past events. Tons of pictures and different
category tabs fill up this blog. The Dollar Shave Club and Full Sail blogs are similar
to each other because they both share the visual concept of connecting to the
audience. What I mean by this is that both blogs use tons of color and
different fonts that grab your attention. They are different from the Science
World blog because Science World doesn’t use as much color and fonts as the
other two. This certain blog has a lot of white space and does not really seem
interesting like the Full Sail blog and the DSC blog. The Science World and
Full Sail blogs are similar to each other because they both focus on upcoming
events or past events. They are different compared to the DSC blog because they
are both more “mature” than the DSC blog topics and also DSC focuses on funny
or very interesting topics. What makes the Science World blog unique is the
fact that you are able to donate money to support science education in
British Columbia. You can also pick from different programs that you can help
support, join their Wonder Campaign, and also join their corporate
partnerships. What makes the Full Sail’s blog unique is that this blog allows
you to pick a certain topic to focus on and read more about that topic versus
scrolling through the news feed to find an interesting article. What makes the
DSC blog unique and interesting is that they are not afraid to talk about
topics that most people would find “inappropriate”. They are bold, sassy, and a
little bit…adventurous!
