Week 4 Reflection: Project Revision

After receiving some valuable feedback from my peers and my instructor, I have decided to make a couple changes to my week 2 project. Joshua had mentioned that he would've liked to see some original photos other than stock images, so I added a lot more original photos but still keeping some of my previous work. Another change I did was rerecord the audio. Between week 2 and now, I've managed to get a lot more experience with putting more emotion into what you're saying. When I recorded the audio for this revise, I did just that. I think it sounds a lot better than the previous one because I have more confidence and more emotion. Last of all, I edited and changed the background music so that the overall experience was more touching. I think that this song has more meaning to it and fits the video better. While revising this project I took more time into learning new things to add such as different transitions and editing the voiceovers. I am extremely pleased with how this revision turned out, especially with how inexperienced I am with working with Final Cut Pro X.

Week 4 Reflection: RISE Self-Evaluation

Week 4 Reflection: RISE Peer Feedback

For this week's RISE peer review, I will be reviewing Joseph Moore.

Joseph, I relate to your digital story because we both thought we wanted to do something specific, in regards to our degree, but have both changed our minds about that. We both had specific career goals we wanted to reach which led us to research and eventually discovering Full Sail University. I would love to know more details about what made you change your mind about your career goal to digital entrepreneurship and also hear a better understanding as to why you chose media communications. You might want to be more specific when discussing why or what made you change your mind. Have you also considered importing music directly from your computer other than recording it from a device? By doing this method you would get much better quality and it would be easier to change the volume of the music so that it wasn't distracting when you do a voice over. Your pictures fit perfectly with what you are talking about and I also think it would have been nice to see original footage to make it that much more meaningful. Great job on your transitions and overall it flowed nicely. Good luck with your future career!

Week 3 Project: Digital Storytelling with Mobile Devices Challenge

Workflow and App Documentation
For this team project our team worked really well together considering the circumstances. We had to split our team up to get our project done at the pace we needed to do it. Joshua and I had very good communication skills throughout this entire project. For all documents that we created Joshua used the Microsoft Word application on his iPhone. For his voice narration in the video he used the Voice Record Pro application also on his iPhone. I used VivaVideo, my phone camera, and also iMovie on iPad to create and record our video. We will be using multiple social media applications such as Facebook for promotion of our video to reach as many viewers as we can. Overall this was a great project and I am very proud of how the video turned out.

Individual Reflection Response
My roles in the team One for One consisted of assisting with the writing of the script, producing and editing the overall video, and also promoting the video. I contributed ideas to the script, applications to use, the first heard voiceover, and also feedback on every writing piece that we turned in as a group. What surprised me about the challenge is how difficult it is to edit a video on a mobile device. I wasn't able to edit everything I wished I could because the application that I used was not professional enough. I am most proud of how the video turned out overall. I think the info that we provided was very sufficient and educational, it was empowering, and also good quality for the applications that we used. I am proud of how the transitions turned out and also the overall feeling you get when you watch it. Yes indeed this was a challenge because their were many obstacles that we had to overcome, from our team members not participating and having to go our own ways, to putting in voiceovers and matching the photos up to the voices. It was very difficult but I definitely learned a lot.

Week 3 Analysis: Businesses & Audiovisual Media

In the Full Sail's Project Launchbox video, I've noticed a couple things that make this video a recruitment tool. The first thing I noticed is that in the beginning when they start to introduce the school to viewers, they point out and discuss who attends this school. He mentions media creators, writers, designers, filmmakers, animators, to catch your attention. The video discusses the intriguing environment that the students work in, including professional equipment that the students get to work with. The second point I noticed that makes this video a recruitment tool is that they promoted the school by showing all of the awards that the school has received, making it the award-winning entertainment media college. Full Sail offers it's students production tools through the use of the Macbook Pro so that they can jump right into their desired degree program. This feature that Full Sail offers is very amazing and will bring future students in who can't wait to get started! Their never-ending projects at the Full Sail campus will lead every student in the direction towards their degree when it's earned so that they can jump right into a career. Last of all, they mention all their different and high-tech software that the students are able to use. Technology does't get in the way here at Full Sail because they have all the equipment and problem solving students to fix anything. Overall, this video sums up a story. A story that Full Sail cares about your education, and cares enough to make it fun! You will be able to learn tons of new and exciting skills to use in your future career. You're able to learn science through an art perspective.
The Dollar Shave Club announces their new product, One Wipe Charlies, and might I add that this video was HILARIOUS! DSC uses many techniques to wow their audience, blasphemy is one them. Everyone likes a company that can be edgy and over the top with their advertising and DSC has done just that to promote their newest product. You might think swearing at a little kid is horrible, but after watching DSC's "Let's Talk About #2" they make it seem super funny. Another technique they used, just like their approach in their very first video, is that the executive pops out of random places and cracks jokes one after the other. Like I said before, if you can make the audience laugh, you probably have future customers. Last of all, you might say that there is a story here, and maybe. The story I got out of it is that it's a great product, just a couple bucks for a 40 pack, and everyone poops so you might as well use One Wipe Charlies.
The Science World video uses a couple different ways to invite patrons to see the museum. First off, they start the video by showing the science building, they enter it and lip sync to the song "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" and "Taking Care of Business" by Bachman Turner Overdrive. One person will lead up to another person to take over leading you around their newly designed science building. Inside there are tons of happy children and even adults that are dancing around having a good time. Second technique they used are stunts. Once you get one minute into the video, they pop balloons with sparklers and even have professional par-core dudes killing it with their flips and turns. There's also sword fighting on the second floor and crazy gymnastics. Last of all, they sum up the video with all the members in centre stage to dance their butts off. This video is inviting and alluring to viewers and customers of the Science World Museum. Anyone who hasn't been their before I'm sure wants to go now. The story to this video is that at the Science World Museum, they know how to have fun! With their newly remodeled inside, and their whole dance crew, you just can't resist going to this museum.

Week 2 Analysis: Businesses & The Visual Web

Seeing for this project that I will be discussing Pinterest along with other social media sites has me pretty excited. I am an avid "pinner" so this should fun. Especially when I will be tying this into media analysis. Full Sail's visual content on Pinterest is both inviting and exciting. They include 32 different boards, which are like an album split up by categories. These broads include topics such as Food Near Full Sail, College Decor, Explore Orlando, and my personal favorite Fashionably Full Sail. Out of the 32 different boards, anyone can click on one that interests them and they can see pictures, blogs, or products that is under that category. They have the ability to "pin" it, meaning they are also saving that chosen picture or product into their own Pinterest library. What makes Full Sail's Pinterest page so awesome is that it is full of interesting and exciting topics. You can find things to do while in Orlando or find a new mac pro sleeve. Images attract anyone, and Pinterest is the perfect place to go for that. Some ways that the content shared on this site supports the Full Sail brand is that they include Full Sail products or even products that relate to the school as a whole. What I mean by this is that they include boards that show the hall of fame, events and guests, but they also show things similar to the school such as amazing media tattoos or things that are simply the color orange, representing the schools color. By doing these things, Full Sail is engaging with their audience by not only bringing them in to their school life with boards that relate to the school, but also making it not just about them. They are attracting students as well as non-students with their vast unique Pinterest boards. Anyone can go to their page and pin things because it's not just school stuff.
Heading over to Instagram, The Dollar Shave Club never disappoints. With their visual eye catching images and their popping filters, anyone scrolling through the app will have to stop what they're doing and click on their page. Looking at the DSC Instagram page makes me want to buy their products. Why? Every photo on their page is great quality, funny or interesting in some way, and represents their brand. The content supports the DSC brand because every picture relates to the company. They have catchy slogans, displays of their products, and even cats. But the cats actually relate to DSC I promise. By representing your brand to everyone in a funny but truthful way, you are building a great relationship with them, building clientele, and also spreading the word. Using this medium, the DSC engages with their audience by connecting to them on a different level. They don't shove hard-core facts in your face, no, they put humor into what they do. When you make someone laugh, they will never forget it. So overall when a company can make their customers laugh while also providing you with a great product, the rest is history.
Facebook is becoming something that everyone has. Facebook is a place to go and share your thoughts, photos, videos, and conversations. The Science World has certainly done that. They have photos, they have videos, events, people, facts, and even jokes. The visual content of this Facebook page is inviting, educational, and fun. Science World posts new events that are happening or have recently happened, like a killer whale popping out of nowhere, and even event invites to attend the annual Spring Lab for anyone who wants to do some experimenting. Its sure to bring a lot more "likes" from around the world. The content supports the Science World brand because everything that they post relates to the company. They provide contact information and even e-newsletters for anyone who wants to keep up on the news. Their content attracts "facebookers" to get informed about anything science. Science World engages with their audience on this medium because they are keeping them informed and engaged. You can interact with Science World by attending labs, watch interactive videos, and keep informed about anything science. When you engage with your customers, the more they will stay faithful to you. Happy customers equals happy company.

Week 2 Practice: Visual Communication

For this week's visual communication, I chose to discuss my strategy cluster. These four images depict the meaning of strategy most because they all show some sort of BRAIN POWER. Chess is one of the most well known image to the meaning of strategy because you must use your brain power to defeat your opponent. Each player has his or her own strategies to win the game. I also chose a corn maze to represent strategy because one must use their knowledge and skills to get out. Usually the contestant is given a map to go off of, which again involves brain power. The picture to the right of that is my graphing calculator. It's pretty obvious for this one that to be able to use the calculator correctly, one must know how to use it. Finally, the top picture is an image of a gentleman showing some sort of graph. This to me looks like a strategy graph that one would explain it's meaning to a group of employers. Graphs also come in handy when making or planning a strategy.  All images were taken by me and also AP Images through Full Sail University.

Week 1 Project: My MCBS Story

Before I started the MCBS program here at Full Sail University, I had almost given up hope to find a degree that actually interested me and that I wanted to pursue. I knew I wanted to be involved in some sort of media in my career, but I found it really difficult with my surrounding influences. I had always thought that I wanted to pursue music, but came to a better conclusion that I should start out with something with more options. I soon became more and more interested with media and since it is becoming such an advanced field, I knew it could be fun and reliable. Because of that, I had decided to go back to researching more about my dream career. Although it was not a for sure choice yet on exactly what that dream career is, I researched schools that offered my degree program. Because of that, I remembered I had wanted to go to Full Sail University ever since I was in 9th grade. I had lost touch of the thought because it wasn't in my price range and I knew if I were to commit to it, I couldn't back down once I started. I had to know that this was exactly what I had been searching for, for the past 7 years. Because of that, I did more research about the program and fell in love with every second of it. It was exactly what I had been searching for, from the unique and exciting courses, to providing you with the right equipment and software. This was a school that was going to make my education fun and inspiring. I had so much built up excitement that I couldn't wait any longer. Until finally, I applied for the MCBS program back in September of 2014 and now I am more proud of myself then ever before. The classes are fun, the people are great, and I couldn't have picked a better college. I am extremely proud of myself that I took the initiative to apply on my own terms and follow through. And ever since I decided to pursue my passion in every day life, no matter what I do, I find myself more knowledgable and eager to learn more and more every day.

How has reading your classmates stories helped shaped your own?

Reading my other classmates stories helped me realize some of my forgotten demons. From the beginning I always had worried about money but I learned that when it comes to following your dreams, money won't be an issue. They reminded me that although you may face struggles, going to this school really has been an amazing thing. Although we have many influences, some may not be good, in the end you have to do what's best for you and follow YOUR dreams, not someone else's. Can I get an AMEN!

Week 1 Analysis: Businesses & Blogs

When going over the Full Sail blog, Science World blog, and the Dollar Shave Club blog, I had noticed several things that they had in common. First, every single blog addresses a question or a group of questions. Ranging from super funny to very serious, it was all questions that we have probably have never thought about, found interesting, or just merely something we’ve always wanted to know the answer to. Second, each blog provided information and facts. To go along with the questions, they provided facts to each answer or topic. Whether they were references or event information, you could tell that everything was planned and in the end you built a trust for them. Third, each blog was visually appealing. My favorite was the DSC blog. Different colors and big fonts provided a great visual presence for any audience member. The Science World and Dollar Shave Club blogs are similar to each other because they both grabbed your attention with their crazy questions. DSC provided feedback to the question, “How Often Should I Go Number Two?” which I personally thought was hilarious! Science World Blog asked questions like, “Ever Wonder About Apples Going Brown?” or “The Effects of Grapefruit on the Brain.” They are all very interesting and capture your attention. They make you feel like you need to know the answer to the question or read more about a certain topic. These blogs are different from Full Sail’s blog because Full Sail is more of an entertainment news channel. This blog lets you know when certain events are coming up or they reflect on past events. Tons of pictures and different category tabs fill up this blog. The Dollar Shave Club and Full Sail blogs are similar to each other because they both share the visual concept of connecting to the audience. What I mean by this is that both blogs use tons of color and different fonts that grab your attention. They are different from the Science World blog because Science World doesn’t use as much color and fonts as the other two. This certain blog has a lot of white space and does not really seem interesting like the Full Sail blog and the DSC blog. The Science World and Full Sail blogs are similar to each other because they both focus on upcoming events or past events. They are different compared to the DSC blog because they are both more “mature” than the DSC blog topics and also DSC focuses on funny or very interesting topics. What makes the Science World blog unique is the fact that you are able to donate money to support science education in British Columbia. You can also pick from different programs that you can help support, join their Wonder Campaign, and also join their corporate partnerships. What makes the Full Sail’s blog unique is that this blog allows you to pick a certain topic to focus on and read more about that topic versus scrolling through the news feed to find an interesting article. What makes the DSC blog unique and interesting is that they are not afraid to talk about topics that most people would find “inappropriate”. They are bold, sassy, and a little bit…adventurous!

Week 1 Practice: RSS & Industry Blogs

I have chosen several different blogs to follow on feedly.com. My main topics that I chose are photography, travel, design, and fashion. These are my top most passionate topics for me. Traveling and documenting my travels through pictures and video is a dream career goal that I have. With these chosen blogs I feel like it will allow me to expand my creative horizons. They will also give me more insight and knowledge about these topics. As for the Full Sail MCBS student blogs, I chose to follow Skye Woods and Joshua Lundholm. I have worked with these students in the past and they are both very smart and creative. I would love to see what they will post in the future.

Week 1 Practice: Start a Blog & Tell a Story

Before I started the MCBS program, I always new I wanted to be involved in some sort of media in my career.
I had always thought I wanted to pursue this, but I couldn't find the right school, and of course there were financial worries.
Because of that, I had decided to go back to researching more about my dream career, although it was not a for sure choice yet, and research schools that offered my degree program.
Because of that, I remembered I had wanted to go to Full Sail University ever since I was in 9th grade.
Because of that, I did more and more research about the program and fell in love with every minute of it.
Until finally, I applied for the MCBS program back in September and now I am more proud of myself then ever before.
And ever since I decided to pursue my passion in every day life, no matter what I do, I find myself more knowledgable and wanting to learn more and more every day.
